Pulseaudio distortion when playing audio in flash

Reported by: efuquen Owned by: lennart

Description

When I play anything in flash the primary audio always plays with a high pitch noise in the background. Its not so loud that it overwhelms the audio, but its definitely easily noticable. If you mess with the volume control for the flash appolication you can set it really low and the high pitch distortion will be just as loud while the primary audio is barely audible.

I did get a workaround while just messing with the volume control. If you set the volume control to max for the app the distortion magically goes away (not just gets overwhelmed by the primary audio, it completely dissappears).

This only happens in web-based flash apps. I tested it on all my other local players, even ones that use the ALSA playback route like flash does, to make sure that wasn't the issue. They all work fine without the same distortion.

I'm running Archlinux (everything is update from their repos as of yesterday) with PulseAudio 0.9.21 and have an Audigy Xi Fi XtremeMusic? sound card.

I can confirm this on my XtremeMusic? as well. However, it happens in ALL sound applications and goes away if I set the master volume to 100%. It cropped up after I bumped the settings up to 5.1

Setting the default-sample-channels to 8 (for 7.1) from 6 (for my 5.1) fixed the issue.
